Sunday’s games in week nine of the 2013 NFL season brought about a lots of thrills, close calls, bad calls, and so much more. There were a number of rare occurrences that happened and three big ones came from the most unexpected of teams and players that anyone could have imagined.
Kansas City Chiefs hit 9-0 before their bye week arrives
The offense of the Kansas City Chiefs is not the best in the world, and that was shown on Sunday as they were getting ruled over by the Buffalo Bills. Luckily for them, their defense is more than adequate and talented enough to pick up the slack where the offense may lack.
Chiefs cornerback Sean Smith returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown. Linebacker Tambi Hali returned a fumble 11 yards for a touchdown. This was enough to put the Chiefs ahead and get them a 23-13 victory and push their record to 9-0 as they head into a bye week.
The only undefeated team left in the NFL will take on the 7-1 Denver Broncos on Nov. 17, in a big AFC West showdown. Kansas City is leading the way in the AFC and the entire NFL, and no one saw this coming after last year’s two wins.
Nick Foles throws record-tying seven TDs as Philly destroys Oakland
Earlier this season, the NFL watched in awe as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL threw for a record-tying seven touchdown passes in a single game. Everyone was surprised to see such a feat from someone even as good as Peyton Manning, but no one saw it coming from Nick Foles.
On Sunday, Foles became the seventh quarterback in NFL history to accomplish the same feat as the Eagles trounced the Raiders. He connected with Riley Cooper three times and hit LeSean McCoy, Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, and DeSean Jackson for more scoring passes.
It appears as if the Philadelphia Eagles have finally found their starting quarterback in a carousel that has been going round and round, the entire season.
Browns take down Ravens for first time in last 12 attempts
The Cleveland Browns are unexpectedly 4-5 on the season, and no-one quite thought they’d be there at this point in the season. Even more unbelievable is that the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens are below them in the AFC North and sitting with a record of 3-5.
Jason Campbell is truly putting himself into the driver’s seat as the leader of the offense as the Browns won 24-18 and broke an 11-game losing streak to the Ravens. This made it three losses in a row for Baltimore and the first time they’ve lost following a bye week in six games under coach Jim Harbaugh.
This win didn’t just break a losing streak for the Browns, but it proved that they are also a force to be reckoned with in the AFC. It also proved that the Ravens may not even get near the playoffs.
