Oh Rex Ryan. The man is quite the orator, but can he coach? We’ll just have to wait and see. In the mean time, enjoy these quotes from Ryan’s introductory press conference in Buffalo.
“Is this thing on? Because it’s getting ready to be on. And, that’s the truth.”
The first words out of Rex’s mouth were perfect. How long do you think he planned on saying these exact words? Awesome.
“We’re going to be tough.”
Toughness, heart, energy, anger, other words that don’t really mean anything but sound good at a press conference. Cliches are great, and Ryan is a master of them. But the great thing about Rex is that every once in a while he says something that is so far off the beaten path of cliche. This however, is not that, and that’s the truth.
“Are we going to do ground and pound? Yeah. You’re darn right we are.”
No one even asked him the question. He asked himself, than gave an emphatic positive answer as if people were doubting him. They don’t have a quarterback, of course they are going to run the ball. Not that anyone asked.
“We want to bring a championship to Buffalo. There is no doubt, and I felt it.”
We are planning on winning. This city enjoys winning. I like winning. So let’s win!
“We’re going to build a bully”
Listen up Belichick, Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills are going to push you around. You’ll still beat them, but it will hurt more. What does this even mean Rex? What’s a bully? They are going to turn into the Detroit Lions under Jim Schwartz.
“I don’t take myself too seriously, but what I do take seriously is the product that you’re going to see on the field and we can’t wait to show it off in September.”
Isn’t this the understatement of the year. Rex doesn’t take himself seriously. I’m buying this one, I can’t wait to see the Bills this season either. But not necessarily because I think they are going to be very good.
“I know we’ll lead the league in defense. That’s just the way it goes.”
There is is! The ridiculous guarantee. Thata boy Rex, put the pressure on. They probably will be one of the better defenses in the league, but it wouldn’t be Ryan without going over the top.
